FAQ

What are Copart and IAAI?

They are the largest US auctions where insurers, leasing companies and dealers sell damaged, recovered-theft and used cars. Buyers are mostly dealers and importers, including for Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and other countries.

What do Salvage, Clean and Rebuilt mean?

It is the title type. Clean — no major insurance claims. Salvage — the insurer declared the car a total loss. Rebuilt — a former salvage car that was repaired and inspected.

How do I read the damage in a lot?

Primary damage is the most serious area (for example, “front end”), secondary is an additional one. It is the auction’s assessment from photos, not an inspection: hidden damage is possible, so check all photos.

What is Run & Drive?

An auction mark: the car starts and can move under its own power on the yard. “Starts” means the engine runs but the car does not drive. The condition is checked when the lot is listed and may change by the time of purchase.

What are ACV and repair cost?

ACV (Actual Cash Value) is the market value of the car before the damage as estimated by the insurer. Estimated Repair Cost is the estimated cost of repairs. When repairs approach ACV, the insurer writes the car off.

Where does CarBids get its data?

From public Copart and IAAI data through licensed providers. We keep photos and sale results after they disappear from the auction page.

Why is there no data for my VIN?

The car may never have been sold on Copart or IAAI, or the data has not been loaded yet. We check the auctions on every search — try later or check the VIN for typos.
